A Saudi-Arabian multi-billionaire who LibDem candidate, Elwyn Watkins calls “The Boss”
The Sheikh was being sued in Jersey in a £120 million lawsuit.
The Sheikh denied the allegations against him, which include breach of trust, conflict of interest and gross negligence.
The LibDem candidate, Elwyn Watkin (described on the National LibDem website as “Personal Advisor for HE Sheikh Abdullah A. Alhamrani”) is being criticised for not giving enough time to his responsibilities in Oldham East and Saddleworth and in Rochdale where he is a LibDem councillor.
Elwyn Watkins is one of the poorest attenders at Rochdale Council. He is the member for Healey Ward.
He attended only 9 meetings in 12 months.
He still managed to claim his full councillor allowances. Plus over £1000 extra for “special responsibility”.
So he costs the Council Tax Payers nearly £1000 per meeting.
No wonder he couldn’t be bothered to turn up at the Birks Quarry Inquiry. He was kept busy travelling the world working for a super-rich Saudi Sheikh. Funny then that his web site page about the Inquiry shows a picture of him outside the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Seeing that anyone might think he actually turned up.
In a letter to the Chron, the Birks Quarry Action Group said “If anyone is playing political games sadly it is the Lib Dems. All the way through, Elwyn Watkins and Mark Alcock have been in the paper taking credit for the work of the group. The reality is that the Action Group have had no physical contact with either of these two individuals, even though they have been invited to our meetings to show their support, and they failed to respond to the majority of our communications.”
Earlier this year Elwyn was summoned to appear in the Royal Courts in Jersey. He gave evidence on behalf of his super-rich boss Sheikh Abdullah. The Sheikh who being sued by other members of his mega rich family for $120m dollars. He was being accused of “breach of trust”.
Giving evidence Watkins described how he frequently travels the world representing the Sheikh. No wonder he misses so much in Oldham East and Saddleworth. He was even kicked off a school governing body for failing to turn up.
