Woolas celebrates as Birks Quarry is dumped
19 January 2010
It is over. The threat to trundle 540,000 tons of rubble past people’s homes and tip them in Birks Quarry has been defeated.
The good news is that the Inspector at the Public Inquiry has ruled against the tipping company. People’s homes and quality of life are safe.
Phil Woolas MP said, “All credit to the Birks Quarry Action Group. I’ve been backing their campaign to the full from the day it started.”
Phil has written to Oldham Council urging them to find a new public use for the site. Click here to read the letter.

No smiles then but all smiles now. Phil Woolas MP joins in the battle to prevent tipping in Birks Quarry
No thanks to the local Liberal Democrats who failed the local community when they needed them
The true heroes of this success are (of course) the men and women of the Birks Quarry Action Group.
